Sneh Rana Scripts History For India, Equals World Record After 25 Years

Sneh Rana delivered a sensational performance to guide India to a commanding 97-run win over Sri Lanka in the final of the Women's ODI Tri-Series at Colombo's R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday, May 11.

The experienced all-rounder picked up four crucial wickets, capping off a phenomenal comeback series that saw her etch her name into the record books.

India, powered by a sparkling century from opener Smriti Mandhana, posted a daunting 342-run total in the summit clash. Rana then took over with the ball, removing key Sri Lankan batters, including captain Chamari Athapaththu, Nilakshi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani, and Malki Madara. Her spell of 4 for 38 in 9.2 overs dismantled the hosts' chase as they were bowled out for 245.

The 31-year-old ended the series as its leading wicket-taker, bagging 15 wickets overall-a feat that makes her the joint-highest wicket-taker in a women's multi-nation ODI series. She now shares that milestone with Australia's Cathryn Fitzpatrick, who achieved the same tally during the 2003 World Series of Women's Cricket.

Rana also surpassed Nooshin Al Khadeer's long-standing Indian record for most wickets in a women's ODI tri-series, and eclipsed New Zealand's Rachel Pullar, who held the previous best (12 wickets) in a similar format back in 2002.

Rana's stellar show earned her the Player of the Match award in the final, and further cemented her place in Indian cricket history. Her tournament began with a three-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the series opener, followed by a five-wicket demolition of South Africa.

Despite India's defeat to Sri Lanka in the second league game, she added three more scalps to her tally before sealing the tournament with another match-winning effort.

Remarkably, this series marked Rana's return to ODI cricket after more than a year-her last appearance coming in December 2023 during a home series against Australia.

Earlier this year, Rana was overlooked in the Women's Premier League 2025 auction but later earned a call-up as a replacement for the injured Shreyanka Patil. In her limited appearances, she impressed with six wickets in five games.

Sneh Rana's triumphant return not only underlines her resilience but also reaffirms her value to the Indian women's cricket setup. With this performance, she has reestablished herself as a match-winner on the international stage.
