Birthday wishes flew in for former India captain Sourav Ganguly who turned 51 on Friday, July 8. From BCCI secretary Jay Shah, opener Shikhar Dhawan and wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav were the first ones to wish Ganguly on his birthday.
Ganguly served as the BCCI president until October last year. In his latest role he returned as the Director of Cricket for the IPL 2023.

Widely known as the captain who changed the outlook of the Indian team while playing abroad, Ganguly has been credited for grooming players like Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh. In fact, MS Dhoni who celebrated his 42nd birthday on Friday, also made his India debut under Ganguly who had pushed his case for selection.
Apart from his aggressive captaincy, Ganguly is known as one of the finest left-hand batters and openers the game has ever seen. He was known as the 'God off off-side' during his playing days.
The Kolkata-born star featured in 113 Test matches and 311 ODIs to score 7212 and 11363 runs respectively.
