Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly, his wife Dona, and daughter Sana joined ongoing protests against the rape and murder of a young doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The horrific incident has triggered nationwide protests, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) now investigating the case under orders from the Calcutta High Court.

The Ganguly family joined a candlelight protest on Wednesday in Behala, Kolkata, despite heavy rainfall. The protest, which saw participants clad in black, was marked by an emotional display of solidarity as protesters sang Rabindranath Tagore's "Aguner Poroshmoni."
Sana Ganguly, speaking passionately at the event, urged for justice, stating, "We want justice. This has to stop. Every day we hear about some rape case, and it's shocking that even in 2024, these atrocities continue."
Dona Ganguly echoed her daughter's sentiments, emphasizing the need for societal change. "We are protesting against rape. We need a safe society. Rape needs to stop," she said. Earlier, Sourav Ganguly had faced backlash over comments that were perceived as minimizing the severity of the incident.
Addressing the controversy, Ganguly clarified that his remarks were taken out of context, stating, "It's a terrible thing. Now that the CBI is investigating, strict punishment must be delivered to ensure no one dares to commit such a crime again."
The protests gained momentum after the body of the young doctor was discovered on August 9, sparking outrage across the medical community. Students and medical professionals have since organized protests, demanding protection for healthcare workers and condemning the tragic loss of life.
The West Bengal Health Department has responded by removing key officials from RG Kar Medical College, including its principal and senior staff members, as the investigation unfolds.
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly joined the online movement supporting the victim, changing his social media display picture to black, along with thousands of others in solidarity with the deceased doctor. As protests continue across the nation, pressure mounts for swift justice in this deeply disturbing case.
