Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to participate in a protest rally against the heinous rape and murder of a doctor intern which took place in Kolkata.
On August 9, a medical personnel was brutally raped and murdered at the R G Kar Hospital in Kolkata. The horrific incident has created a massive public uproar in the state and beyond. Ganguly, who previously voiced his stern opinion against the incident, is set to take road on Wednesday in Kolkata, his wife confirmed.

Sourav Ganguly suddenly erased his profile picture on Instagram on Monday. He replaced it with a Black background and also shared an Instagram story of the same. The former India captain was previously criticized for commenting on the R G Kar case where he mentioned it as 'a stray incident'.
But amid the massive uproar, the India legend will join the mass on the roads of Kolkata. His wife Dona Gangopadhyay told Anandabazar Online that the former player may take part in two processions on Wednesday.
On Wednesday afternoon, present and former players will gather beneath the Gostha Paul effigy in Kolkata at 3 pm. Former athlete Soma Biswasera urged the sportspersons to be in the rally and Ganguly is likely to be a part of it.
"As far as I know, Sourav is supposed to be in the rally at Maidan. From there, he can also join in our rally. We have also arranged a candle lighting after the rally, and Dada (Sourav) will join that.
On Wednesday, Dona Gangopahyay will spearhead a protest rally which will start in Behala. It will start at about 7 pm from the dance institute named Deeksha Manjari, professored by Sourav's wife herself.
Soma Biswas, a former athlete, who is in the forefront of the protest rally, couldn't confirm to MyKhel if Ganguly will be present at the event. But she made it clear that the invitation is to everybody to come and join the protest rally.
"It is not an individual event. We can't send invitation letter and we can only confirm [whether Ganguly will be present] tomorrow. All of us sportspersons will gather and protest against this heinous incident. It is an open invitation to all. On 14th August, it was a spontaneuous movement and it is the same tomorrow. We want proper justice," she said.
