Sourav Ganguly to be India's next coach?

Kolkata, April 16: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly could be the national team's next coach as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun search for Duncan Fletcher's replacement.

According to media reports on Thursday (April 16), Ganguly met BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya and had "informal talks". He is one of the front-runners for the job.

BCCI's Working Committee will meet on April 26 to discuss on the appointment of new coach. Fletcher's tenure as India coach ended with the World Cup 2015.

"It is brilliant news that an Indian is considered to coach the team. Ganguly is a good choice," former India speedster Abey Kuruvilla told "Times Now" TV channel reacting to the news.

"We have been intimated that there is a Working Committee meeting on April 26. Dalmiya will speak to the members and also seek their opinion about the appointment of new coach. Although the circular of the agenda has not been distributed but obviously some discussions will take place," an influential BCCI official told PTI on Sunday.

Many believe an Indian should be considered to coach the team. Since 2000 to date, four foreigners have been at the helm - John Wright (New Zealand), Greg Chappell (Australia), Gary Kirsten (South Africa) and Fletcher (Zimbabwe).
