Cape Town, February 3: South Africa captain Faf du Plessis will miss the remainder of the one-day international series and all three Twenty20 internationals against India due a finger injury.
Du Plessis injured his right index finger during India's victory in the first game of the six-match ODI series on Thursday.
Further assessment revealed a fracture that will require three to six weeks to heal, and it has been decided that he will now rest to ensure he is fit for the first Test with Australia on March 1.
Farhaan Behardien has been included in the Proteas' squad as Du Plessis' replacement, while Heinrich Klaasen earns his first call-up as a reserve wicketkeeper.
The second match of the ODI series takes place on Sunday, with a three-game T20 series beginning on February 18.
In an Instagram post, Du Plessis wrote: "Thanx [sic] for all the kind messages. Not a result we wanted in the 1st game but a lot of cricket left in the series.
"Gutted to be out injured for the rest of the series with a fractured finger. Looking forward to see some big performances from the men in green and gold."
