South Africa join India and six other teams to qualify directly for 2023 World Cup, check full list

South Africa on Tuesday became the eighth and last team to book direct qualification berth for the upcoming 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup as the first ODI between Ireland and Bangladesh in Chelmsford was abandoned due to incessant rain.

Notably, the top eight teams in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League standings were to qualify directly for the marquee event. Following their two home ODI wins against Netherlands, South Africa had toppled West Indies to occupy the eight spot.

However, their chances for automatic qualification still depended on Ireland's ODIs against Bangladesh. A 3-0 series victory for Ireland would have brought them level on points with South Africa (assuming they incurred no penalty points) and Net Run Rate (NRR) would have come into play.

However, with the first ODI washed out now this is no longer a worry for the Proteas who have booked their 2023 World Cup spot alongside India (hosts), New Zealand, England, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Further, ten teams are in hunt for the final two spots for ICC World Cup 2023. West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, Nepal, USA and UAE will lock horns in the World Cup Qualifier which will be held in Zimbabwe.

The top two teams will grab the final two berths. Zimbabwe and Netherlands finished bottom of the Super League table and will head straight to the Qualifier. Scotland, Oman and Nepal finished in the top three of League 2 and booked their place in the World Cup Qualifier.

After disappointing League 2 campaigns, USA and UAE bounced back in the Qualifier Play-off in April, ensuring their top-two finishes on the penultimate day of the competition.
