Fit-again Anrich Nortje and Lungisani Ngidi return as South Africa on Monday (January 13) announced their 15-member squad led by Temba Bavuma for the upcoming ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025.
With this selection, Nortje returns to ODI cricket for the first time since September 2023, having been sidelined with a stress fracture in his back that forcde him to miss the ODI World Cup 2023 and the subsequent 50-over bilateral series.

Lungi Ngidi also makes a long awaited comeback to the national side, having been out of international cricket since October 2024 due to a groin injury. The duo will join Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen to form the pace attack for the Proteas.
However, frontline pacer Gerald Coetzee was not picked because of the groin injury that he suffered during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Durban last year. Subsequently, he missed the second Test at Gqerberha and the entire home rubber against Pakistan.
Pacer Nandre Burger, who suffered a a lumbar stress reaction, ahead of the ODI series against Ireland in early October too was not considered for selection. The Proteas, however, handed pace-bowling all-rounder Wiaan Mulder a spot after recovering from a fractured finger.
Mulder is one of four freshes to earn their maiden 50-over ICC event call up alongside Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs. South Africa have largely stuck with the core group that powered them to the semi-finals of the 2023 Men's Cricket World Cup, retaining 10 of the 15 players for the Champions Trophy.
Bavuma will continue to lead the side and will take inspiration from, having led the Proteast the ODI World Cup final in 2023 and the next World Test Championship (WTC) Final, which is scheduled to be held at Lord's in June 2025.
Prominent names like Aiden Markram, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen and Rassie van der Dussen form the rest of the batting group, while spinners Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi make up the squad. Here is a look at South Africa squad for Champions Trophy 2025:
