Who Won the Toss Today, SA vs BAN World Cup 2023 Match 23: South Africa captain Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bat first against Shakib Al Hasan's Bangladesh in ICC World Cup 2023 Match 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (October 24).
South Africa are currently the third-ranked team in the 10-team World Cup 2023 points table. They defeated defending champions England by 229 runs at the same venue. Chasing a 400-run target, England were bundled out for 170.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, are reeling at the seventh spot. After beating Afghanistan in their first match, they have suffered three consecutive defeats against England, New Zealand and India respectively.
As for the team news, South Africa regular captain Temba Bavuma has not full recovered. Lungi Ngidi also missed out due to a knee injury and is replaced by Lizaad Williams. Shakib Al Hasan, who missed against India, has recovered from hi quad injury.
Bangladesh Playing XI: Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan(c), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Mahmudullah, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud
South Africa Playing XI: Quinton de Kock(w), Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lizaad Williams
After opting to bat first, South Africa captain Aiden Markram said, "We will bat first. Trying to approach in a similar way to the English game. It's really hot. It took a toll on everyone, it's advantage fielding in the evening. It proves that anyone can beat anyone. We took lesson from that Netherlands game, it's a new day today. We need to try and repeat the same thing. Ngidi has a niggle, he misses out, Lizaad comes in."
After being asked to bowl first, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said, "Fully fit (on his fitness). Hridoy is not playing, I come in the team for him. Today is an important game, we have to play our best cricket to win against SA. I don't mind bowling first. If we restrict them to a respectable total, we can chase it down.
The track used today will be two tracks adjacent to the one used in England vs South Africa. The square boundaries are shorter as compared to the straighter ones. You need to hit the deck hard in order to get wickets here. It's similar to the pitch that was played between England and South Africa. A pretty good surface to bat on. The weather suits Bangladesh, but the pitch suits South Africa, reckons Dinesh Karthik. Team winning the toss should opt to bat, says Nasser Hussain.
