After losing the Test series 0-2, West Indies will hope to bounce back when they continue their tour of South Africa with a three-match ODI series, starting with the first ODI onThursday (March 16) at the Buffalo Park in East London.

The three-match series will then continue with the second ODI, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday (March 18) at the same venue before the action shifts to JB Mark Oval in Potchefstroom for the third and final ODI on March 21.

Both teams are fighting for a direct entry to the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to take place later this year. But this series will not play any role in deciding which team earns the eighth spot.

The top eight in the ODI Super League standings earn a direct entry into 2023 World Cup. As it stands, West Indies are currently in eighth, while South Africa are in ninth.

The Windies have no more games left in the current cycle, but the Proteas can surpass them with series white-wash over Netherlands later this month.

This will be South Africa's first ODI assignment since their 2-1 home series win against England last month, while this will West Indies' first ODI outing since they lost a home series 1-2 to New Zealand back in Ausgust 2022.

The hosts will be be led by Temba Bavuma. Gerald Coetzee and Tony de Zorzi are the only other players apart from skipper Bavuma that will remain in the squad from the Test series.

The likes of Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen and David Miller are set to play only in the third ODI, while the likes of Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Tristan Stubbs and Lungi Ngidi return to the squad for the Proteas.

Keshav Maharaj was part of the squad, but an injury has ruled him out for the series with Tabraiz Shamsi replacing the spinner.

Similarly, Wayne Parnell, who was set to play in the third ODI, replaces Wiaan Mulder for the first two ODIs. Pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje are also not part of the squad.

The visitors, meanwhile, will see the return of skipper Shai Hope along with the likes of Rovman Powell, Nicholas Pooran, Odean Smith, Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd.
