South Africa's captain, Temba Bavuma, expressed disappointment over the lack of time after their first Test against West Indies ended in a draw. The match, affected by rain, saw South Africa declare at 173-5 but fail to bowl out the Windies in two sessions. West Indies reached 201-5 at stumps, chasing 298, with Alick Athanaze scoring 98.
Keshav Maharaj was the standout bowler for South Africa, taking 4-88. Kagiso Rabada contributed with figures of 1-38. Maharaj said, "I pride myself on playing Test cricket. I always relish a chance to bowl and the conditions suited me. I tried to keep repeating the process and keep things simple."

The Proteas were one bowler short as they opted for an extra batter in the first Test. Bavuma noted that the wicket did not deteriorate as expected. "From our side, we tried our best to get a result in our favour," he said. "But the wicket didn't break up as much as we expected. In the end, it was a good, competitive game of cricket."
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite praised his team's batting performance. "Happy with our batting group," he stated. "The guys were quite positive, so [I'm] proud of the batting unit. We believed we could get those runs. It wasn't going to be easy."
Bavuma also highlighted that weather played a significant role in the outcome. "We lost time because of the weather," he mentioned. "With the bowling resources we had, we tried our best. A little bit more time and things could have been different."
The first Test concluded at Queen's Park Oval with both teams sharing honours.
The second and final Test is set to begin on Thursday.
