Spectator stabbed to death during local cricket match after argument over no-ball in Cuttack

In a shocking incident in Odisha's Cuttack district’s Mahisalanda, a fan was stabbed to death after an argument over umpire's no-ball broke during a local cricket match. The deceased has been identified as Lucky Rout (22) of Mahilanda. The accused Muna Rout is absconding.

The fight broke out among the spectators during the match between under-18 cricket teams from Shankarpur and Berhampur was underway on Sunday afternoon. An argument erupted between Lucky and Jaga Rout when the umpire declared a delivery as no-ball.

It was then that Jaga called his brother Muna. The perpetrator came to the venue infuriated and first beat Lucky with a bat before stabbing him in his chest with a knife.

A critically injured Muna was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police rushed to the spot after getting the information and began a probe. The situation in the area of crime got intense after locals gheraoed the police team and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. A case of murder has been registered in this connection.
