Nagpur, Nov 26: The spin trio of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra helped India shatter a 25-year-old record at the VCA Stadium here today (November 26).
On the 2nd day of the 3rd India-South Africa Test here, Ashwin, Jadeja and Mishra shared all 10 Proteas wickets to bowl the visitors out for a record low of 79 in 33.1 overs. The hosts took a first-innings lead of 136.
Today's 79 is the lowest Test total against India. The previous low score was 82 by Sri Lanka in Chandigarh in 1990.
Off-spinner Ashwin took 5/32, his 14th five-wicket haul in Tests while Jadeja had 4/33. Mishra, who got to bowl just 3 overs, accounted for one wicket.
South Africa had resumed the day at 11/2 and in the space of 23.1 overs, they lost 8 wickets for the addition of just 68 runs on a pitch that assisted spin.
