The fate of the Asia Cup 2025 hangs in the balance as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has reportedly reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), requesting an urgent meeting to address the delay in finalizing the tournament's schedule and venue.
While the BCCI has been designated as the host for the marquee continental event, escalating geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan have raised concerns about whether the competition can be held on Indian soil.

According to a report by Sports Tak, sponsors and media rights partners have expressed growing unease over the prolonged uncertainty, fearing a potential hit to commercial revenues.
The situation became more sensitive following India's launch of "Operation Sindoor" - a counter-terror operation targeting militant hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) - in response to the recent Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives. This geopolitical escalation has cast fresh doubt over the possibility of Pakistan traveling to India for the tournament.
Speculation is rife that the Asia Cup could be shifted to a neutral venue such as the UAE, although no official confirmation has been made yet. Meanwhile, there are increasing calls from some quarters for India to sever cricketing ties with Pakistan altogether, further complicating matters.
Currently, the two nations only face off in ICC or ACC events, with their last encounter coming during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. However, any decision to withdraw or relocate the event will require extensive discussions between the involved stakeholders.
Responding to the swirling reports, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that no formal talks regarding the Asia Cup have taken place within the board. "The Asia Cup matter or any other ACC event issue has not come up for discussion at any level," Saikia said. He added, "... till now, BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding ensuing ACC events, leave alone writing anything to the ACC."
With mounting pressure from sponsors and the geopolitical backdrop worsening, the coming weeks could be crucial in determining where - or even if - the Asia Cup 2025 will take place.
