Spot fixing: Now, Pakistani umpire accused of involvement

Mumbai, May 23: Police investigating the spot fixing scandal in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) alleged that Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf was in constant touch with actor Vindoo Dara Singh who was arrested for his alleged links with bookies. It was said that Rauf also received gift items from the bookies.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) withdrew the Pakistani umpire from the upcoming Champions Trophy scheduled in England and Wales later this month after the media reports were published, much to the embarrassment of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Mumbai Police said Rauf is likely to be summoned for questioning for his alleged links with the bookies.

PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf said the problem was with the IPL management and it should take strong measures. Former Pakistani cricketer Aamir Sohail, on the other hand, slammed the ICC for not taking serious steps against the fixing controversy in cricket and said it was only concentrating on the money-making aspects.

He also criticised the ICC for withdrawing Rauf from the Champions Trophy before any proof was established against him.
