SRH cricketer Abhishek Sharma called by Surat Police in model Tania Singh suicide case; love affair suspected

SRH cricketer Abhishek Sharma has been called by Surat Police to record his statement in the model Tania Singh suicide case which has rocked the city. Police suspect a love affair behind Tania Singh's suicide and is checking out call details of her mobile phone.

The incident happened at a society named Happy Elegance in Vesu area of Surat on Monday. The 28-year-old model, who originally hailed from Rajasthan, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her apartment.

Police have already taken statements from five others, including friends and family, who had called Tania recently. Abhishek Sharma is not the prime suspect, but has been summoned as he was her friend for a long time.

However, Police Inspector BU Barad of Vesu Police Station clarified that the call details show that there was no contact between the deceased model and all-rounder Abhishek Sharma for a long time. As per reports, Tania Singh was studying fashion designing and modelling for the last 18 months.

Abhishek Sharma was recently in action for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 match against Tamil Nadu. He scored 7 and 36 across the two innings, and picked two wickets in the match. The talented youngster from Amritsar scored 91 runs in the second innings against Karnataka in January.

Abhishek Sharma, 23, is expected to play a key role for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024. The left-hand batter, over 2187 runs in 88 T20 matches at an average of 29.55 and a strike rate of 145.60, was bought by SRH for Rs 6.50 core ahead of the IPL 2022.

He has also played 24 first-class and 53 List A matches, scoring 1071 and 1547 runs respectively. His left-arm spin bowling has also fetched him 49 wickets (first-class and List A) domestic cricket.
