SRH IPL 2025 Retention: Heinrich Klaasen to be First Choice, Two Indian players to be retained

By MyKhel Staff

Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to utilize almost the full quota of retention ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, as per reports.

The Orange Army, who finished as runners-up in IPL 2024, are looking to keep some of their key performers ahead of next season. A report from India Today suggests that the IPL 2016 champions are eyeing to preserve their firepower with an emphasis on retaining Indian talents.

SRH

The franchise is set to keep five players at the team for the next IPL cycle. SRH's retention strategy includes star wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen, captain Pat Cummins, and openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. These players were instrumental in SRH's success during the IPL 2024 season. Also along with them, local boy Nitish Reddy is going to be retained as well.

SRH IPL 2025 Retention: Heinrich Klaasen to be the First Pick

Heinrich Klaasen is set to be SRH's first retention, not Pat Cummins. Klaasen is highly valued in T20 cricket for his batting prowess against spin. The South African will be followed by captain Pat Cummins, whereas Abhishek Sharma is going to be a pick as well.

Travis Head will be the fourth pick, which means the Australian southpaw will earn Rs 18 crore. In a strategic move to strengthen their Indian contingent, SRH plans to retain Nitish Kumar Reddy. The 21-year-old all-rounder has shown promise in his two IPL seasons and was acquired by SRH in 2023 for Rs 20 lakh. Reddy is set to get an astronomical pay rise as well, with the India all-rounder is tipped to be the fifth choice, he will earn Rs 14 crore from the new IPL retention rules.

SRH IPL 2025 Retention Order and Salaries

1. Heinrich Klaasen - Rs 23 crore

2. Pat Cummins - Rs 18 crore

3. Abhishek Sharma - Rs 14 crore

4. Travis Head - Rs 18 crore

5. Nitish Reddy - Rs 14 crore

Due to a new rule change in IPL, the players with more than the upper bracket of the amount set by the IPL shall see their franchises being deducted the same amount. Hence although the first retention bracket costs Rs 18 crore, due to Klaasen's potential Rs 23 crore deal, the same amount shall be deducted.

As the Hyderabad team looks to continue their upsurge in the IPL, they may now enter the auction with a potential purse of just Rs 33 crore. The deadline to submit the retained players is October 31. The IPL mega auction is tipped to take place in Riyadh in November.
