SRH Retention List for IPL 2025: Players Retained, Released and Remaining Budget for Auction

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are prepping for IPL 2025 with a refreshed roster of top players at their disposal. With an eye on the title, SRH have already retained a core group of players who were crucial to their success last season.

The 2016 IPL champions made huge investments in retaining the core. After missing out on a title in the last campaign, they will look to make a bid for the title this time around.

SRH Retention List for IPL 2025

Sunrisers Hyderabad Players Retained

1. Heinrich Klaasen: INR 23 crore

2. Pat Cummins: INR 18 crore

3. Abhishek Sharma: INR 14 crore

4. Travis Head: INR 14 crore

5. Nitish Kumar Reddy: INR 6 crore

The 2016 IPL champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), have made significant investments in retaining their core players, as they banked on both experience and emerging talent. Head was retained for INR 14 crore, more than double his initial INR 6.8 crore investment in 2024. The dynamic batsman scored 567 runs in 15 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 191.5, proving to be a key asset in SRH’s lineup.

Captain Pat Cummins remains central to SRH’s plans as he was retained for INR 18 crore. His leadership guided SRH to the finals last season and he will aim to bring the title home this time around.

South African wicketkeeper-batsman Klaasen was retained for INR 23 crore. He justified his value with 479 runs last season, hitting four fifties at an average of 39.92 and a strike rate of 177.08.

The 24-year-old Abhishek Sharma had a breakthrough season, scoring 484 runs at a strike rate of 204.22. Retained for INR 14 crore, he formed a powerful partnership with Head, together amassing 599 runs at a rate of 13.21 runs per over.

SRH's Auction Budget and Future Strategy

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have the option to use a right-to-match (RTM) card at the upcoming auction, which would allow them to re-sign one of their uncapped players if they choose.

In addition to retaining core members, SRH will have to make some tough calls in releasing some players to aim for a balanced squad for the upcoming season. SRH retained players worth INR 75 crore, leaving them with a budget of INR 45 crore out of the INR 120 crore total wallet.

This means that it would limit their remaining spending power. However, with SRH having already set their sights on retaining the core, it would give them the flexibility to make way for strategic or impactful additions during the November auction as they prepare for another shot at the IPL title.

With the IPL 2025 mega auction set for late November, SRH have a decent amount of money remaining in their budget. It remains to be seen how SRH will go about their work in making a few impactful additions at the auction while preserving their core lineup.
