SRH vs CSK, IPL 2024: A Plan to Stop MS Dhoni or True Sportsman Spirit? Twitter Divided as Pat Cummins withdraws Ravindra Jadeja Obstructing the Field Appeal

By MyKhel Staff

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins showed sportsman spirit during the IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday (April 5).

The SRH captain withdrew an appeal on Ravindra Jadeja as the CSK batter was being adjudged whether he obstructed the field or not.

During the flag end of the innings, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a yorker to Jadeja. The CSK player just managed to jam it out and as the SRH bowler threw the ball back to the stumps, it seemed like Jadeja had blocked the throw. The umpires got together in a discussion and decided to take it upstairs.

But it was the SRH captain to the rescue of Jadeja as Cummins decided to withdraw the appeal. The commentators hailed the Australian for his sportsman spirit. Sunrisers are also sitting at the Top of the IPL 2024 Fair Play table, which adjudicates the spirit and discipline of a team and their players during a match.

After Cummins' latest benevolent attitude towards his opponent, the Orange Army are surely going to add a few more points to their Fairplay tally. Fans also hailed the SRH captain for withdrawing the appeal and poured their love for the Australian skipper. Jadeja scored an unbeaten 31 runs off 23 balls and Chennai Super Kings posted 165 for 5 at the end of their 20 overs.

But after Pat Cummins' appeal withdrawal, the fans have divided on the Australian's act. A section hailed the SRH captain for his sportsman spirit, while another section is saying it was a masterstroke from the SRH skipper to stop MS Dhoni from coming out to bat.

This fan believes Pat Cummins withdrew Ravindra Jadeja's appeal to stop MS Dhoni from coming to the crease. The CSK supremo was set to come out to bat after the next dismissal and fans think it was a tactical move from the SRH captain to delay Dhoni's entry to the last few overs.

Dhoni came to bat eventually in the final over and scored 1 run off two balls. The 42-year-old couldn't replicate his last match's destruction.

This fan also believes it was a clever plan by Pat Cummins to stop MS Dhoni from coming to bat.

Former India player Mohammed Kaif also questioned Pat Cummins and asked if he would do the same to Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cup.

"Two questions to Pat Cummins on withdrawing the obstructing the field appeal against Jadeja. Was it a tactical call to let a struggling Jadeja be the crease and keep Dhoni indoors? Would he have done the same if it was Virat Kohli at World T20?" Kaif tweeted after the match.
