SRH vs CSK: Klaasen, Young Guns Power Hyderabad To Third Playoff Spot; Experts Urge For Chennai In Post-Dhoni Era

Sunrisers Hyderabad secured the third playoff spot in the TATA IPL 2026 with a five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. On JioHotstar's 'Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live', experts assessed SRH's young core, Heinrich Klaasen's role, and CSK's shift under Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The result confirmed SRH's place in the playoffs and underlined their strong season. Chennai Super Kings, now led by Ruturaj Gaikwad in the post-Dhoni phase, face a reset. Analysts on JioHotstar, including Ravichandran Ashwin, Aaron Finch, and Varun Aaron, broke down the key themes.

Captaincy affects Gaikwad in IPL 2026

Varun Aaron on Sakib Hussain and Praful Hinge

Speaking on JioHotstar's 'Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live', SRH bowling coach Varun Aaron praised young bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain as "fearless prodigies" who are "extremely eager to learn" and already focused on playing for India through sustained work and ambition.

Varun Aaron said preparations with Hinge and Hussain began almost two months before the season. SRH organised specialised camps and worked on different bowling aspects. He highlighted their "tremendous effort" before and during the IPL and noted they are now "beginning to see the rewards".

Heinrich Klaasen’s finishing impact

On Heinrich Klaasen, Aaron noted SRH struggled last season to close games when the top order misfired. He said Klaasen now handles that role "brilliantly", shifting from run-a-ball to eight or nine an over, and praised his latest knock, especially his back-foot shots against spin.

Ravichandran Ashwin said Chennai Super Kings are "clearly in a transition phase in the post-Dhoni era" and urged fans and stakeholders to accept that rebuilding needs time. He felt captaincy responsibility has affected Ruturaj Gaikwad's batting in already demanding T20 conditions and added pressure.

Aaron Finch cautioned against judging Ruturaj Gaikwad on one season, calling T20 cricket "extremely demanding and unpredictable". He felt Gaikwad has led well with decisions and composure, and said the opener now needs to regain batting rhythm, as "the quality is still there".
