KL Rahul is within striking distance of a prestigious T20 milestone that could see him surpass Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli. The Delhi Capitals' wicketkeeper-batter is just 43 runs away from joining the 8000-run club in T20s - and potentially doing it faster than any Indian ever has.
Set to face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a crucial IPL 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Rahul could etch his name into the history books if he capitalizes on this opportunity.

Having already become the quickest batter to reach 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League, Rahul's consistency in the shortest format continues to shine. With 7957 runs in 222 T20 innings so far, he needs 43 more to reach 8000. If he crosses that mark in this match, he'll surpass Kohli, who took 243 innings to hit the same landmark, becoming the fastest Indian ever to do so.
This feat would place Rahul in elite company - only the third Indian batter to breach the 8000-run mark in T20s, after Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. Kohli had achieved the milestone back in 2018, while Dhawan got there in 2021, taking 277 innings.
Globally, West Indies great Chris Gayle remains the fastest to reach 8000 T20 runs, accomplishing the feat in a mere 213 innings. Following close behind is Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who reached the mark in 218 innings. Kohli stands third (243), with fellow Pakistani Mohammad Rizwan next (244), and Australia's Aaron Finch (254) rounding out the top five.
Rahul has been a pillar of Delhi's batting this season, scoring 371 runs across nine matches. However, he's had mixed fortunes lately. He managed 41 off 39 balls in a slow innings against RCB at home, and was dismissed early - run out for just 7 - in their previous encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders, thanks to a sharp effort from Sunil Narine.
Despite these setbacks, Rahul's form has been strong overall, and with a playoff berth on the line, Delhi will be counting on their senior batter to step up against a potent Hyderabad attack featuring Pat Cummins, Harshal Patel, and Mohammed Shami.
Another Delhi top-order batter, Abishek Porel, has also shown promise with over 250 runs this season. His aggressive style has impressed, though his failure to convert starts into significant scores has remained an area of concern.
With Rahul on the cusp of a rare milestone and Delhi's playoff hopes hanging in the balance, Monday's game promises high stakes and possibly, a moment of history.
