SRH vs GT, IPL 2025: Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill Sink Sunrisers Hyderabad to Fourth Consecutive Defeat

By MyKhel Staff

SRH vs GT: A clinical display of fast bowling and elegant strokeplay saw Gujarat Titans cruise to a seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 19 of IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Mohammed Siraj's fiery spell with the ball and Shubman Gill's commanding half-century ensured Hyderabad suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament. Washington Sundar impressed too as his rapid 49-run knock took pressure off Gujarat Titans' chase after losing two wickets.

Sunrisers, having opted to bat first, posted a modest 152/8 in their 20 overs. The innings never truly took off despite a few cameos. Pat Cummins struck some late boundaries, including a towering six and a four in the final over, to add 17 crucial runs, but it was Siraj who stole the spotlight.

The Hyderabad pacer tormented his former franchise with a brilliant spell of 4/17. His relentless stump-to-stump accuracy yielded crucial wickets, including a double blow in the 19th over, when he trapped Aniket Verma LBW and bowled Simarjeet Singh.

Despite a fighting finish, the Sunrisers' total looked below-par, especially on a surface that gradually eased out. In response, Gujarat Titans approached the chase with calculated aggression. While they lost Sai Sudharsan early to a short ball from Shami and Jos Buttler to a sharp rising delivery from Cummins, Shubman Gill stood tall.

Gill crafted a sublime 68* off 43 balls, anchoring the innings with poise and precision. His innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression-executing textbook cover drives, late cuts, and sweeps with equal finesse. Gill brought up his half-century with a deft boundary through point and never looked back.

Partnering him was Washington Sundar, the surprise package who counter-attacked with a flurry of boundaries. His cameo of 49, featuring audacious pulls and flicks, broke the back of the chase. One particularly explosive over from Simarjeet Singh yielded 20 runs, shifting momentum irreversibly in GT's favour.

The pair stitched together a game-changing stand in the middle overs that silenced the Hyderabad crowd. When Sundar fell just one short of his fifty, Sherfane Rutherford came in and applied the finishing touches with a six and a four, ensuring the Titans crossed the line with 20 balls to spare.

For SRH, the concerns are piling up. Their middle order continues to misfire, and their bowling lacks the cutting edge needed to defend sub-par totals. Cummins and Shami delivered with the ball, but the spinners leaked runs, and the fielding left much to be desired.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans now have three wins on the trot and are building solid momentum early in the season. With Gill finding his rhythm and Siraj striking gold with the ball, GT look like strong contenders once again. For SRH, the road ahead looks uphill, and immediate course correction is needed before the playoffs slip further out of reach.
