Abhishek Sharma has gone into the history books for conceding the joint-most number of runs in an over in the IPL this season.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad player conceded 31 runs in the 16th over of the match to get himself level along with Yash Dayal and Arjun Tendulkar, who have conceded the same amount of runs in an over this season.
Sharma's over started with Marcus Stoinis hitting him for two sixes in between a wide ball. In the third delivery, the SRH bowler got his revenge by picking up the wicket of Stoinis.
A ball thrown outside off found the fielder in the long-off as the Australian departed after scoring 40 off just 25 balls. But as things were looking just a bit rosy, the over went haywire in the final half.
Nichols Pooran came in and didn't bother of giving himself a sighter. He hit three consecutive sixes in the first three balls and thus completed a mammoth 31-run over.
1st Ball - 6 Runs
2nd Ball - Wide!
3rd Ball - 6 Runs
4th Ball - Wicket
5th Ball - 6 Runs
6th Ball - 6 Runs
7th Ball - 6 Runs
The 22-year-old SRH bowler was seemingly distraught after conceding that huge amount of runs and has his name now associated with a humbling record. The course of the match changed from that over.
LSG needed 69 in their last 5 overs, and after Sharma's over, they only need 38 runs in 4 overs. A required run rate touching 14 was dragged down to 9.5 in just an over. Pooran continued his merry way and stayed unbeaten on 44 off just 13 balls as LSG secured a 7-wicket victory.
The loss means SRH are almost out of the tournament. The Hyderabad-based franchise remain 9th in the table with 8 points after 11 matches.
