SRH vs LSG: Shardul Thakur, Nicholas Pooran Star in Lucknow’s Maiden Win of IPL 2025

By MyKhel Staff

SRH vs LSG: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opened their account in IPL 2025 with a dominant five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Chasing 191, Nicholas Pooran's explosive 70 off 26 balls and Mitchell Marsh's composed 52 laid the foundation for LSG's successful chase, which they completed in just 16.1 overs.

After losing Aiden Markram early, LSG found a game-changing partnership between Pooran and Marsh. Pooran was in destructive form, smashing the fastest fifty of the season, reaching the milestone in just 17 balls.

His breathtaking strokeplay dismantled SRH's bowling attack, as he launched sixes at will. Marsh complemented him well, bringing stability to the chase while playing his shots when needed.

SRH captain Pat Cummins, however, pulled things back momentarily by dismissing both Pooran and Marsh in quick succession. With LSG still requiring crucial runs, Abdul Samad, playing against his former team, delivered a match-winning cameo. His blistering 22 off just 8 balls ensured LSG cruised to victory with 23 balls to spare.

Earlier, LSG's bowling unit, led by Shardul Thakur, restricted SRH to 190/9. Thakur, continuing his fine form from the previous match, delivered a sensational spell, finishing with figures of 4/34. He removed the dangerous Abhishek Sharma early before trapping Ishan Kishan for a golden duck. His later strikes, including the wickets of Abhinav Manohar and Mohammed Shami, prevented SRH from crossing the 200-run mark.

Prince Yadav also played a key role, dismissing the in-form Travis Head for 47 and being involved in a freakish run-out of Heinrich Klaasen. SRH, despite a strong start, faltered in the middle overs and never fully recovered. Aniket Verma's 36 off 13 balls gave them a late boost, but it was not enough against LSG's power-packed batting lineup.

With this win, Lucknow continued their dominance over Hyderabad, now leading the head-to-head battle 4-1. Their decision to bowl first proved effective, and their batting firepower made light work of the target. LSG will take confidence from this commanding win as they look to build momentum in IPL 2025.
