SRH vs LSG: The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad witnessed a spectacle of power-hitting as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) stormed to their first win of the IPL 2025 season, overpowering Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a thrilling chase.
On a night that promised fireworks, Nicholas Pooran delivered an explosive masterclass, smashing 70 off just 26 balls to propel LSG to a dominant five-wicket victory. His fearless strokeplay turned what could have been a tense chase into a breezy stroll, leaving the Hyderabad crowd stunned.

SRH, known for their batting might at home, had earlier set a competitive total of 190/9. While Travis Head and the middle order chipped in, they lacked the defining innings needed to post an intimidating score. Enter Pooran, who arrived with intent and unleashed a barrage of boundaries that shattered SRH's hopes. His blistering 18-ball half-century - the fastest of IPL 2025 - ensured LSG's win was sealed well before the final over, marking a memorable night of high-octane cricket.
Pooran's Power Unleashed
Chasing 191 on a batting paradise, LSG's aggressive start set the platform for a comfortable chase. Although Aiden Markram fell early to Mohammed Shami, Pooran wasted no time stamping his authority. He launched into Simarjeet Singh in his very first over, smashing 17 runs to inject momentum into the chase.
The real turning point, however, came in overs 7-10 when Pooran dismantled Adam Zampa's leg-spin, plundering 19 runs off one over. This onslaught left SRH scrambling for answers. Harshal Patel's next over also came under fire, conceding 15 runs, which further tilted the match firmly in LSG's favour.
Pooran's blistering fifty, reached in just 18 balls, was the fastest half-century of IPL 2025 and the second quickest in LSG's history - only behind his own 15-ball effort against RCB in 2023. His partnership with Mitchell Marsh proved decisive, with the duo adding a rapid 116 runs off just 43 balls to put the game beyond SRH's reach.
SRH's Struggles with the Ball
While SRH had previously posted 286 at the same venue against Rajasthan Royals, they struggled to replicate their batting dominance this time. Travis Head's brisk start and useful middle-order contributions offered promise, but the innings lacked a substantial score to anchor their effort. The LSG bowlers, led by Pat Cummins, effectively contained the scoring on a batting-friendly surface.
In response, LSG stormed to 77/1 in the Powerplay - their second-highest Powerplay total in IPL history - setting the tone for the chase. Pooran's fearless approach ensured there was no respite for the SRH bowlers despite Cummins' spirited effort, which briefly raised hopes by removing both Pooran and Marsh in quick succession.
Closing Stages and Victory
Though LSG lost a few wickets in their push to finish the game quickly, Abdul Samad's late cameo ensured there were no hiccups. His unbeaten 28 off 22 balls saw LSG over the line comfortably.
Reflecting on the game, LSG's captain Rishabh Pant credited the team's aggressive mindset and Pooran's fearless batting. "Pooran's knock was extraordinary - he completely took the game away in those middle overs," Pant remarked.
With this commanding performance, LSG announced their intentions in IPL 2025, while SRH will need to regroup quickly to recover from their setback.
