SRH vs MI: Sunrisers Hyderabad endured a night to forget at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium as their top order crumbled dramatically against Mumbai Indians in the first innings of Match 41 of the IPL 2025.
Batting first after MI won the toss and elected to bowl, SRH slumped to 13/4 inside 4.1 overs, marking their lowest score after four wickets in IPL history and one of the worst powerplay performances this season.

This collapse has now joined an infamous list in SRH's IPL journey. Only two other instances rival this top-order meltdown:
15/4 vs Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur back in 2013
17/4 vs Pune Warriors India in Pune, also in 2013
Their powerplay total of 24/4 now stands as the lowest powerplay score by any team this season, ahead of CSK's 30/3 against RCB and their own 33/3 effort against KKR in Kolkata.
Mumbai's bowling attack, spearheaded by Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar, made full use of the conditions early on. Boult struck twice in quick succession, removing both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, while Chahar cleaned up Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy. With the top four back in the hut inside the first four overs, the Hyderabad innings never quite recovered. Boult picked up a total of 4 wickets.
Although Heinrich Klaasen (71 off 44) tried to revive the innings with a gritty knock, supported briefly by Abhinav Manohar (43 off 37) with a 99-run stand, the damage had already been done. SRH managed to post 143/8 in 20 overs, a total far below par given the batting-friendly nature of the pitch this season in Hyderabad.
The alarming inconsistency in SRH's top-order continues to haunt their campaign, and unless they find answers quickly, their playoff hopes may slip further out of reach.
The second innings await and Mumbai feel they could chase the target down.
Abhinav Manohar said at the break: 143 is a bit low on this wicket. It isn't as flat as it looks on TV, the new ball is moving a bit. Gets easier as the game goes along. The fast bowlers weren't getting much movement later and the spinners couldn't get much hold either. From the past three games, I've been expecting a chance (as impact sub) so was ready. He (Klaasen) asked me to take the game till the 15th over, and then we can play catch-up from there. To watch him bat from the other end was amazing.
