Sunrisers Hyderabad's opener Abhishek Sharma etched his name in IPL history on Saturday, April 12, by smashing the second-fastest century ever recorded by a Sunrisers Hyderabad batter.
The 24-year-old southpaw from Punjab, retained by SRH for a whopping ₹14 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, reached his maiden IPL hundred in just 40 balls during the clash against Punjab Kings. His explosive knock marked a landmark moment in both his career and the franchise's record books.

He scored 141 off 55 balls with a brilliant strike-rate of 256.36, which included 14 boundaries and 10 sixes.
With this score, he is now notched up the highest-ever individual score in the IPL by an Indian, going past the likes of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill. It also happens to be the highest individual score by a batter in the IPL while chasing as well.

Speaking of the match, after winning the toss and opting to bat, Punjab Kings put up a gigantic 245/6 in 20 overs, riding on a flurry of boundaries from their top and middle order. Captain Shreyas Iyer led the charge with a blistering 82 off 36 balls, hammering 6 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 227.78. He was well supported by Prabhsimran Singh, who made 42 off 23, and Priyansh Arya, who contributed a quickfire 36 from just 13 balls.
Despite the carnage, Harshal Patel was the standout bowler for SRH, taking 4 wickets for 42 runs. Youngster Eshan Malinga chipped in with two crucial wickets, helping pull things back slightly during the death overs.
In reply, SRH came out all guns blazing. The opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma stitched together a commanding 171-run stand in just 12.2 overs, dismantling the Punjab bowling unit.
While Head smacked a fiery 66 off 37 balls, it was Abhishek who stole the show with a historic knock. The 24-year-old southpaw from Punjab, who was retained for ₹14 crore, smashed 14 fours and 10 sixes en route to the second-fastest IPL century by a Sunrisers batter-reaching the milestone in just 40 balls.
Abhishek's dismissal at 222 in the 17th over didn't slow SRH down, as Heinrich Klaasen (21)* and Ishan Kishan (9)* sealed the win with 9 balls to spare.
