SRH vs PBKS: In the absence of Sam Curran and Shikhar Dhawan, Jitesh Sharma will be leading Punjab Kings in the side's match of the IPL 2024 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, May 19.

Sam Curran, who led Punjab Kings in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, left the tournament with the remaining England players part of the four-match T20I series against Pakistan starting May 22.

Curran, Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow left for England for national duty, and a final dress rehearsal ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 from June 2 in the USA and the West Indies.

Shikhar Dhawan led Punjab Kings in the first five matches before being ruled out with an injured shoulder. Curran led Punjab to three wins in eight matches after Dhawan's injury.

Jitesh Sharma named PBKS captain for match vs SRH

Jitesh Sharma was announced as the captain of Punjab Kings ahead of their final IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. They are already out of the playoffs race, having won only five of their 13 matches in the league stage.

"The mood is more positive in the dressing room than before because we have nothing to lose now. The season has been inconsistent for us. But we played really good cricket and we had many positives throughout the season. Jitesh Sharma said in the pre-match press conference.

"The way Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma have played was excellent, and Harpreet Brar and Prabhsimran Singh have also been in good form throughout the season. In cricket, things can change in an instant. We just missed out on some luck.

"Punjab Kings is famous for fearless cricket and we will be more fearless in the last game. Everyone will play with correct intent and we will be playing to win," the 30-year-old added, who will become the 17th captain of Punjab Kings.
