SRH vs RCB IPL 2023: Full List of Award Winners, Man of The Match, Post-Match Presentation, Stats and Records

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) kept their playoff hopes alive following comprehensive 8-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 65 of IPL 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday (May 18).

After Heinrich Klaasen's maiden IPL hundred powered SRH to 186 for 5 in 20 overs, Virat Kohli's hundred in reply helped RCB seal an 8-wicket win in a crucial match with 4 balls to spare.

Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis

Kohli smashed his sixth hundred - the joint most in IPL history. Chris Gayle is the other batter who has 6 hundreds to his name in the Indian Premier League. Kohli (100 off 57 balls) and Faf Du Plessis (71 off 47 balls) shared a 172-run opening stand.

For SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan took a wicket each, while most bowlers were expensive on the night as sixes and boundaries rained in Hyderabad as the crowd were treated to two wonderful hundreds.

For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Michael Bracewell claimed two wickets for 13 runs in 2 overs, while Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel and Shahbaz Ahmed took a wicket each. Siraj, however, was the pick of the bowlers, having conceded just 17 runs in 4 overs.

With the win, RCB moved to fourth position on IPL 2023 points table with 14 points after thirteen matches to stay alive in the playoffs, while already eliminated SRH remained at the foot of the table with 8 points from 13 matches.

SRH vs RCB IPL 2023 Match 65 Post Match Comments

Losing captain, Aiden Markram said: "We batted pretty well. We could have found a little runs out there in the powerplay. Great contribution from Klaasen. But still was a good score.

"Great support for not just us but for RCB as well. We couldn't give them a win. We all hate losing. We would be out there looking for a win. Hopefully have smiles at the end of the campaign. Great knock from Faf and Virat."

On the SRH team, Markram added: "We had a look at some guys moving forward. Probably one less option in the powerplay. Kartik was put under pressure. The plans were in place but the execution didn't fall in place.

"Mayank was impressive. Special knock from Klaasen. Super happy for the guy. I don't think he would have dreamed of getting a hundred in the IPL. Unfortunately ended in a losing cause."

Winning captain Du Plessis said: "Amazing chase isn't it! That's my first reaction. Did feel walking off after first innings that it was a very good wicket. Felt 200 was a par score. Not many balls turned for the spinners. We're doing the right things from a batting perspective. In previous game we were also clinical with the ball.

On partnership with Kohli, Du Plessis added: "We complement each other really well (partnership with Kohli). We play in very different areas so it's difficult to bowl to.

"We're good mates on and off the field. We're going back to Chinnaswamy which will be an amazing game. A lot of fans coming in and another must-win for us."

Player of the match, Kohli said: "Quite special considering the magnitude of the game. Thought SRH got a very good score. Ball was gripping as well.

"Faf's been on a different level. I've had a quiet couple of games. The way I was hitting in the nets wasn't transitioning into the middle. Never look at past records (not great numbers against SRH)."

On approach, Kohli added: "I put myself under so much stress already. I don't care what anyone says on the outside. I've never been a guy who plays so many fancy shots. It's Test cricket after the IPL. Have to stay true to my technique."

On understanding with Du Plessis, Kohli said: "I think it's the tattoos. It's been a beautiful transition for us coming together for RCB at the top and making an impact. Crowd here was amazing today as well. Told Faf as well. Just felt like it was a home game for us."

On the support in Hyderabad, Kohli said: "They were cheering for us, taking my name as well. I feel you can't create this. I haven't forced anyone to support me. It's an amazing position to be in that you can provide happiness to so many people."
