SRH vs RR: Hard to believe Sanu Samson does not get chances in Team India - Eoin Morgan

SRH vs RR: Former England and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Eoin Morgan has said that it was hard to believe that Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson does not get more chances to play for India. The statement from the World Cup-winning team came after Samson's 32-ball 55 versus Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Coming to bat at number three, Samson, who has played only 27 matches for India across formats since his debut in 2015, played some exquisite shots en route to his 22-ball 54 which included three fours and four maximums. The knock helped RR post 203/5 in Hyderabad.

"It's hard to believe he does not play more international cricket. The power he generates is insane. Not many can play Adil Rashid with that ease. We have seen it before but can he maintain it, we will have to see," Morgan told on JioCinema during the mid-innings break.

Samson for long has been considered as one of the most talented cricketers in the country. However, he has failed to capitalise on the limited opportunities he has got at the international level. In the 17 T20I matches he has played, the 28-year-old has scored only 301 runs at an average of 20.06.

In ODIs cricket, his record is slightly better. He has played 10 innings in 11 matches and remained unbeaten on five occasions. The same is the reason why, Samson has scored 330 runs in the format at an astonishing average of 66.

After missing a berth in the T20 World Cup 2022, there have been suggestions to include the Kerala batter in the upcoming ODI World Cup which will be held in India in October-November. In the absence of injured wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, the batter could compete with Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul for a place.

In case Shreyas Iyer is ruled out for a longer duration due to his back injury, Samson can also be tried in the middle-order alongside Rahul, India first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in the white-ball format.
