SRH vs RR IPL 2023: Rajasthan Royals were off to a winning start in the new season as they defeated hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad in front a packed Hyderabad crowd by 72 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.

Three batters shone on the day for Rajasthan Royals as skipper Sanju Samson (55), openers Jos Buttler (54) and Yashashvi Jaiswal (54) did the heavy lifting at the top of the order to take them to 203/5 in 20 overs.

RR pacer Trent Boult maintained the momentum in the bowling too as he dismissed Sunrisers' openers in the first over to push the hosts back in the run chase. Senior spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took over as he finished with a spell of 4/17. SRH lost half of their batting order inside the 10 overs with just 48 runs on the board.

A knock of 32 not out by Abdul Samad down the order and 19 not out by Umran Malik helped SRH to give a semblance of respect to their final score as they finish at 131/8 in 20 overs. Jason Holder and R Ashwin took a wicket each as well.

SRH vs RR IPL 2023 Match 1: Who Said What

Jos Buttler | Player of the Match Fantastic start. We had a really good last season but this is a great marker for this time, we start fresh. I plan a bit but react on the day, assess the conditions and try and put pressure on the bowlers. Enjoying my cricket at the moment, playing with a clear mind.

Sanju Samson | RR captain Was wondering how we'll start this season, very happy with this. Having batters like Buttler and Jaiswal, the mindset with which they play the powerplay we can expect such starts. We are a very good side, but you know this format. So we need to keep our heads down.

Today was a very good start but we are looking at finishing things well. For me, today I wanted to stay there and finish the innings. We will find out if there are any weaknesses as the tournament goes on (chuckles).

Yuzvendra Chahal Definitely the start we wanted. The way Jos and Jaiswal batted, we knew a big score will always be difficult to score. The plan was to bowl stump to stump, tossing it up is my strength. I'm not too bothered about who I'm bowling to. Definitely you'll see a big celebration when I get a five-wicket haul.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar | SRH captain 100 per cent we can say that, let's forget and move on, the way we pulled back in the last 6 overs and Umran's cameo at the end. We did not bowl pretty well, first match of the season and a lot to improve.

South Africans are coming back and we definitely will be a much better batting side, we have to move forward from this game. It was a pretty good track, we can prepare what we want but we are not worried about that.
