SRH vs RR: Why is Sanju Samson not Captain Today and only named as Impact Player?
Sanju Samson is playing in the Sunrisers Hyderabad match in the IPL 2025 today (Sunday, March 23) only as an Impact Player.
Rajasthan Royals commence their IPL 2025 campaign against last year's runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad and Sanju is not in the captain's role for the first match.

Why is Sanju Samson not captaining Rajasthan Royals Today?
Sanju Samson is not captaining due to an ongoing recovery from a finger injury. He underwent surgery last month and, while he has rejoined the squad, he has not yet been cleared for wicketkeeping and fielding duties. As a result, Samson is playing as a specialist batter until he is fully fit.
In his absence, 23-year-old Riyan Parag has been appointed as the stand-in captain for the first three matches of the season. Parag's leadership experience includes captaining Assam in domestic T20 matches.
Parag is set to lead the team in the opening fixture against SRH on March 23, followed by home games against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 and Chennai Super Kings on March 30.
Samson is expected to resume his captaincy and full on-field responsibilities once he has fully recovered and receives medical clearance.
SRH vs RR: Sanju Samson to play as Impact Player
Riyan Parag won the toss and decided to Bowl first. Sanju Samson will be playing in the second innings and is likely to bat only as an Impact Player.
