Colombo, Mar 4: Sri Lankan cricket team that had an escape from the terrorist attack on Tuesday, Mar 3 in Pakistan, have returned home safe on early hours of Wednesday, Mar 4 morning. The wounded players were rushed to a local hospital.

The tensed families of the Sri Lankan players gave an emotional welcome as 25-member tour party disembarked from a chartered Sri Lankan Airlines plane at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranawitharana who had gunshot injuries were brought out first and were rushed to the hospital.

Sri Lanka's cricket team captain Mahela Jayawardene was limping and looked very tried and shocked, but he managed to smile at the reporters and speak a few words, while the new spin sensation Ajanta Mendis was seen walking out with a plaster behind his right ear.

Jayawardene told the media that he was just grateful to see his family after the players thought they were going to die. The Sri Lanka captain put forth, "I mean I'm just very happy that I could see the family and come back to Sri Lanka in one piece and that every breath I take I am pretty glad that I can take it without a problem. I mean you just think about life and everything is in front of you, in a moment just flashing across when you go through an incident like this. None of us, if you speak to any of us the whole (team) members, honestly would have said to you that they never thought that they would come alive out of that situation. And we are very lucky that no one came across any serious injuries, life threatening, and that everyone is in good shape. There are a few guys that need a bit more time to recover and that we can hopefully put this behind us a move forward."
