Sri Lanka should fear these two India batters in IND vs SL World Cup 2023 Match - Rohit Sharma is not the ones

India and Sri Lanka will be up against each other in an important World Cup 2023 match on Thursday (November 2). The two Asian teams are playing their 7th match of this tournament.

India are currently in a magnificent position with six victories out of six matches, while Sri Lanka's campaign has turned flat as they sit 7th in the standings.

India vs Sri Lanka

India's paramount batting lineup has done justice to its sky-high expectations. The Indian batters have scored a lot of runs in the tournament so far and have dismantled almost all the bowling lineups. And as the Lankans take on the in-form batting lineup, they will have to be wary of the big names.

But who can inflict the biggest damage? Will if we speak about the Indian team, any player can cause a lot of damage to the Sri Lankan bowling lineup. The likes of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and others have already racked up a lot of runs in this tournament, and they won't mind slaying the Lankan bowling attack if they get complacent.

And if we dive into the Indian batters' stats against Sri Lanka, the threat can come from any direction. But one player who has consistently underperformed against Sri Lanka is Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma ODI stats vs Sri Lanka

India captain Rohit Sharma scored his career highest 264 against Sri Lanka few years ago. But when it comes to overall batting record, Rohit hasn't done anything spectacular against the Island nation.

He has scored 6 centuries against them, but averages around 46 overall in ODIs, which is far less than his average against Australia (58) or Pakistan (51). But with the form that he is in, the Indian captain can go on to better his stats against the Lankans, but at least history says when Rohit hasn't scored big, he has scored very little against them.

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are the biggest threat for Sri Lanka

The two batters who have the best record against the Lankans are Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill.

Virat Kohli has scored 2506 runs in 52 matches against Sri Lanka, with 10 centuries and 11 fifties to his name. The Indian stalwart averages over 62 against them, and has scored 4 hundreds in his last seven ODI innings against Kusal Mendis and his team.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is another who has found batting easy against Sri Lanka. Although the sample size is small, Gill's record says the opener has amassed 253 runs in just 5 innings, with one century and a fifty so far.

Hence these two batters statistically are much more of a threat for the Lanka side. And to make matters worse, all of India's middle-order batters (Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav) have an average excess of 40 against them.
