After a comfortable win in the one-off Test followed by the 3-0 white-wash in ODI series, Sri Lanka will now host Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, which serves as a platform for both teams to test their T20 squads heading into the World Cup later this year.

The three-match T20I series will be staged in the space of four days at the at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, starting with the first T20I on Saturday (February 17) followed by the second T20I on Monday (February 19) and third T20I on Wednesday (February 21).

Both teams will be playing their second T20I series this year. Sri Lanka head into the series fresh from a 2-1 home series win over Zimbabwe, while Afghanistan are fresh from a 0-3 away series loss to India.

As for team news, Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the side with Charith Asalanka serving as deputy. The squad has plenty of all-rounders including Dhananjaya de Silva, Angelo Mathews, former skipper Dasun Shanaka and Kamindu Mendis.

Hasaranga will spearhead the spin attack that also includes Maheesh Theekshana and Akila Dananjaya. Pathum Nissanka, fresh off making the highest score for Sri Lanka in ODIs, is joined by the likes of Kusal Mendis, Asalanka, Mathews and Sadeera Samarawickrama in the batting group.

The pace unit will be without the injured Dushmantha Chameera, but will include the likes of Matheesha Pathirana, Dilshan Madushanka, Nuwan Thushara, Binura Fernando.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, will be continue to be led by Ibrahim Zadran with senior spinner Rashid Khan still recovering from the back surgery he underwent last year. Mujeeb ur Rahman also misses out, having sustained a sprain in his right hand before the ODI series.

Wafadar Momand has been recalled to the squad after his lone appearance in 2023 with Mohammad Saleem Safi continuing to recover from a hamstring strain that saw him miss the ODIs against Sri Lanka.

The wicketkeepers for this series are Rahmatullah Gurbaz and Mohammad Ishaq Rahimi. Naveen-ul-Haq returns to the side and will feature alongside pacers Fazal Haq Farooqi and Fareed Ahmad.

Qais Ahmad, Noor Ahmad and Sharafuddin Ashraf will be the spinners with Mohammad Nabi also adding depth as the all-rounder, while Azmatullah Omarzai, Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib are the other all-rounders. Hazratullah Zazai and Najibullah Zadran are the other two batters.
