The victory has lifted Australia from the bottom of the ICC 2023 World Cup points table, while Sri Lanka have slumped the third straight defeat.

Sri Lanka experienced another disappointing performance on the batting front. Despite an initial promising collaboration that yielded 125 runs, they fell apart once again. The team underwent a drastic loss of ten wickets for a mere 84 runs, and were bundled out for just 209 runs.

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera were excellent though. The pair added 125 runs for 1st wicket. Nissanka scored a decent 62 while Perera scored 78 runs.

Adam Zampa's magical spin decoded the Sri Lankan batting lineup. It was a middle-order procession for them as Zampa ran through the batters. The Australian leg-spinner ended up picking 4 wickets.

There was a brief stop in the match during the Sri Lanka inning as rain arrived along with a very strong wind. This is the first match of the World Cup 2023 in which we observed rain.

In response, Australia confidently chased their target, finishing the game considerably early. Crucial contributions came in the form of half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis.
