Australia have registered their first victory in the ICC World Cup 2023 as they beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets on Monday (October 16) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
With this, the Aussies have now lifted themselves up from the bottom of the table. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, now have lost three matches in a row and their semifinal hopes are in tatters.

It was yet another collapse from the Sri Lankans with the bat. After a decent opening stand of 125 runs, they capitulated again. The Lankans lost their ten wickets for just 84 runs as Adam Zampa ran through the Lankan batting lineup.
In reply, the Aussies chased it down down comfortably with many overs to spare. Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis scored important half-centuries in the run chase. Despite losing a few early wickets, the Aussies got over the line and now have registered their first victory in the tournament.
Player of the Match: Adam Zampa - Australian leg-spinner was given the Player of the Match award for picking up 4 wickets in the match.
(Feeling on the Performance) Yeah, feel like I feel better. I've bowled better, but sometimes you have those days. Yeah, well, I think that was the caps decision. I said we're going to cheque the officer on against the leftist. So yeah, chance of the 5 foot 5 foot gone. And, yeah, I don't reckon I would have bowled after anyway. My back was pretty sore. (On his Bowling) Personally, not on my best. Yeah, I felt like, particularly last game, I could have done a bit better. My role is to take wickets and haven't quite been doing that to make it easier for the death guys. I feel like I'm a good critic of myself and feel like I can be doing better. But, yeah, nice to be on the, on the better end of the results or not. (On the next matches) So, yeah, it's just just the attitude trying to get wickets. And from game to game, same story kind of rinse and repeat the same. Next match against Pakistan in Bengaluru is crucial.
Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka Captain): Nissanka and Perera batted well. After that we struggled and got a low score. 290 or 300 would have been a good score. We couldn't rotate the strike much. Last two games we batted really well. Today the batters struggled. I have confidence in my batting unit. I think Madushanka bowled really well. He gave us two early wickets. We can field better.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): Nothing said much on the back of two losses. The energy on the field was great. They started very well. We bowled decently. We stayed at it. The bowlers hit the deck hard. I think high 300 was par on that. There is a lot of people watching this. Outside noise doesn't bother us a lot. All parts of the game came together today. We would want to keep it up.
