Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh: Schedule, Test Squads, Full List of Matches - All You Need to Know

By MyKhel Staff

Sri Lanka has unveiled an 18-member squad for the opening Test against Bangladesh, scheduled to be played at Galle from June 17, as they play an all-format series against the Tigers.

This match will also mark the beginning of Sri Lanka's campaign in the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Dhananjaya de Silva has been entrusted with the captaincy as the national side embarks on a new red-ball journey.

The squad reflects a shift towards youth, with several promising talents receiving their maiden Test call-ups. Middle-order batter Pasindu Sooriyabandara, all-rounder Pavan Rathnayake, and left-arm pacer Isitha Wijesundara are all in line to make their Test debuts. Their inclusion signals Sri Lanka's intent to rebuild and invest in the future.

Meanwhile, Lahiru Udara and Sonal Dinusha, who earned their Test debuts during the recent home series against Australia, have retained their places in the squad, suggesting continuity in Sri Lanka's evolving Test strategy. Experienced pacer Lahiru Kumara has also been included in the squad but will miss the first Test due to injury, dealing a blow to the home team's fast-bowling resources.

The match will be a poignant one for Sri Lankan cricket as veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews is set to bid farewell to Test cricket. Mathews, who made his Test debut at this very venue back in 2009, will end a distinguished 17-year red-ball career at Galle, where it all began. His retirement follows that of former skipper Dimuth Karunaratne, who played his final Test earlier this year at the same ground against Australia.

For Bangladesh, the two-match series also marks their entry into the new WTC cycle. Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue to lead the side, having been confirmed as the Test captain for at least another year. The visitors have named a balanced squad with a mix of youth and experience, aiming to start their campaign with a strong performance.

The second Test of the series will be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo, beginning June 25. Followed by the Tests, the two nations will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20I matches.
