Sri Lanka will host New Zealand in a two-match Test series, which will be part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. Both Tests will be played at the Galle International Stadium in Galle, Sri Lanka.
The first Test, which includes a rest day, will be staged from Wednesday (September 18), while the second Test will begin a week later on September 26. This series will mark New Zealand’s first visit to Sri Lanka for a red ball game since 2019, when the teams shared the spoils.

Fresh from a 1-2 series loss in England, hosts Sri Lanka will continue to be led by Dhananjaya de Silva with Oshada Fernando coming in to replace Nishan Madushka in the 16-player squad, which is otherwise identical to the one that toured England recently.
New Zealand, on the other hand, will be led by Tim Southee with the likes of Kane Williamson, Tom Latham and Devon Conway among the Test playing seniors in the squad.
Having last played in the longer format back in March, the Kiwis will hope to get some red ball action after their one off Test against Afghanistan was abandoned earlier this month. Both sides will aim to improve their WTC standings in the upcoming series.
Sri Lanka currently occupy 5th position in the ICC World Test Championship standings with a win percentage of 42.86 after a 2-0 loss to Pakistan in 2023 followed by a 2-0 win against Bangladesh in 2023-24 and the recent 1-2 loss to England in 2024.
New Zealand, two places ahead of Sri Lanka at 3rd, have had a mixed run of 2-0 series triumph over South Africa, 2-0 loss to Australia and 1-1 draw with Bangladesh. Here is all you need to know about the SL vs NZ 2024 series:
