After three T20Is in Dambulla, Sri Lanka and West Indies will continue to battle in white-ball when they clash in a three-match ODI series at the Pallekele International Stadium in Pallekele. Sri Lanka bounced back from opening game loss to win the T20I series 2-1 earlier in the week.

Now, the hosts will look to carry the momentum into the 50-over series, which opens on Sunday (October 20). The second and third ODI will take place on Wednesday (October 23) and Saturday (October 23) respectively. All three ODIs will be staged in Pallekele.

Sri Lanka has announced a 16-member squad, which will continue to be led by Charith Asalanka, who captained the team in T20I series, and the playing group also includes the exciting all-rounder Chamindu Wickramasinghe.

Plus, Wanindu Hasaranga, who made his return from injury, will lead a strong spin attack that has the likes of Maheesh Theekshana, Jeffrey Vandersay, and Dunith Wellalage in the mix with several part time options also available.

West Indies, meanwhile, has named Shai Hope as the skipper, who will continue to lead the side with Alzarri Joseph serving as his deputy. One notable inclusion in their squad is the young Antiguan wicketkeeper-batter, Jewel Andrew.

The home side is fresh from an impressive 2-0 home series win over India in August, while West Indies’ last ODI outing was a 0-3 away series loss to Australia, coming back in February.

There is nothing to separate between the two sides heading into the series. In SL vs WI head to head meetings, both Sri Lanka and West Indies have won 31 times each with the most recent result being an 8-wicket win for Lanka in the 2023 ODI World Cup qualifier in Harare.

This will be West Indies’ seventh visit to Sri Lanka for a bilateral ODI series. The Caribbean side has won just 3 times on their previous visits to the Island nation. Their last ODI win on Sri Lankan soil came back in 2005.
