The 35-year-old showcased his resilience at the crease, playing 190 deliveries and striking 12 boundaries. He formed a massive 241-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Travis Head, who contributed an explosive 152 runs off 160 balls.

With his 33rd Test ton, Smith overtook Joe Root's record on Sunday by scoring his 10th Test century against India. Root, who is England's all-time leading run-scorer in Tests, has also achieved the milestone of 10 centuries in the longest format of the game against India but the former tops the list as he did in 14 innings less than Root. Smith also now has the most number of international hundreds against India as well across all formats (15).
