Strict or lenient coach? Smiling Anil Kumble answers fan's question

Antigua, July 20: Since taking charge as India's head coach last month, Anil Kumble has brought in changes, one of them being the "Fine Committee" to penalise players for breaking rules set by the team management.

The "Fine Committee" has paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the chairman while batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Shikhar Dhawan are the other 2 members in the panel. (Focus is on changing batsmen's mindset: Kumble)

A penalty of 50 dollars is imposed for players turning up late for the team bus. However, so far, no player has been penalised. The fines collected will be given for charity.

After the "Fine Committee" came into existence, many fans felt Kumble is strict and focused on discipline as he was during his playing days.

With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) giving a platform for fans to ask questions to Kumble on the micro-blogging website Twitter, one of them wanted to know whether the former captain is strict or lenient as a coach.

Kumble answered this question with a smile. However, he did not give the perfect answer, leaving it to the team members to decide about him.

"You want to know whether I am strict coach or a lenient coach? All I know is I am a cricket coach. Whether I am strict or lenient? You will probably have to ask the team. I have certainly enjoyed the last three weeks of being part of the Indian dressing room and to again be in India colours. So really looking forward to the West Indies tour starting very soon," Kumble answered to Luvneesh on Twitter.

Like Luvneesh, several other fans grilled Kumble on various cricket issues with the hashtag #AskTheCoach on Tuesday (July 19).

India are on the Caribbean islands to play 4 Tests against the West Indies. The first match starts tomorrow (July 21) in Antigua.
