Sub continental captaincy no 'bed of roses': Younis Khan

Lahore, Sep.12 (ANI) : Pakistan cricket captain Younis Khan feels that leading the national squad is not an easy task especially in a cricket crazy region.

In an interview with an Urdu daily, Khan said captaincy was not a 'bed of roses' as the skipper of a national cricket team tends to make more enemies than friends in the sub-continent.

"I can tell you by experience that captaincy is not a bed of roses. It's a very thorny path," The Daily Times quoted Khan, as saying.

Khan was critical of way the things worked in Pakistan cricket.

He said as soon as new a new captain is appointed a 'lobby' starts functioning inside the team management.

"When I was the vice-captain under Inzamamul Haq, people used to come to me and tell me to just take over the captaincy because Inzamam was finished. I think that's the way it is in our cricket," Khan said.

Referring to Indian vice-captain Virender Sehwag's unwillingness to take up the captaincy, Khan said it was probably due to the interference from the administration that players are reluctant to take up the challenge.

"I don't know why he Virender Sehwag is not willing to see himself in the role of Indian captain, but I think that it is factors like all these intrigues and stuff in our part of the world that cricketers like him are not interested in captaincy," he said. (ANI)
