Sunil Gavaskar explains why Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should return to T20Is, their batting not the reason

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar has revealed the reason why Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should make their comeback in the Indian T20I squad. Gavaskar said Kohli and Rohit have been in outstanding forms but that according to Gavaskar is not the only reason why the experienced duo should mark their comeback in the match.

A recent report by The Indian Express has suggested that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have made themselves available for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. Kohli and Rohit have not featured in any T20I match for India since India lost their semi-final match against England at the T20 World Cup 2022.

Gavaskar said that apart from being brilliant batter, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are still gun fielders. He said that combined with their tremendous white-ball forms make them ready for T20I cricket.

"Virat Kohli's form has been outstanding for the past 1.5 years. He also played brilliantly at the ODI World Cup. So, there should not be any debate over his batting prowess in limited-overs cricket. A massive aspect is that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are still excellent fielders," Gavaskar told Star Sports during the T20 World Cup 2024 schedule announcement on Friday.

The T20 World Cup 2024 starts from June 1. India play their first match against Ireland on June 5 in New York. India vs Pakistan marquee clash will be held on June 9 in New York.
