Suryakumar Yadav Travels To London For Sports Hernia Treatment, Set to Miss Action Till August: Report

India's T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, has traveled to London to receive medical care for a sports hernia on the right side of his body. The injury has ruled him out for the short term, with his return expected sometime around August, according to multiple media sources.

With no immediate white-ball fixtures for India, Yadav is taking advantage of this gap in the schedule to prioritize his recovery. While Shubman Gill is captaining the Indian Test squad in England for a five-match series, Yadav's focus is on regaining full fitness in time for India's upcoming limited-overs commitments.

The treatment is scheduled to begin next week, and although the BCCI has not issued an official update, insiders believe the recovery period could extend up to eight weeks.

The timing works well for the Mumbai-born batter, as India's next T20I assignment is not until their tour of Bangladesh in August. That series will be followed by home contests against South Africa and the West Indies and an away tour of Australia - all part of India's preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Undergoing treatment now gives Yadav the chance to be in peak physical condition for this important phase.

Yadav's recent form has been nothing short of stellar. He lit up the IPL 2025 season with the bat, piling up 717 runs in 16 matches at an average of 65.18 and a blistering strike rate of 167.9. His consistency stood out, as he crossed the 25-run mark in every single innings - setting a new T20 milestone for the most successive 25-plus scores in a season.

His performances were instrumental in Mumbai Indians reaching the playoffs, though they fell short in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings.

Following the IPL, Yadav featured in the Mumbai T20 League representing Triumph Knights MNE. Despite his presence, the side struggled, securing just one win in five outings and failing to reach the knockout stage. He chipped in with 122 runs during that stint.

As the focus shifts to his recovery, Indian fans and team management alike will hope that Suryakumar returns stronger and fully fit to take charge of India's T20I side in what promises to be a crucial buildup to the next global tournament.
