Suvarna News 24/7 wins Acharya Media Cup 2013

Bangalore, Mar 17: The cricketers fielded by Suvarna News 24/7 emerged triumphant over their counterparts from Samaya TV in the final of the Acharya Media Cup 2013 here on Sunday.

The Samaya TV team batted first and scored 63 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 12 overs but the victory target was successfully chased down in 7.1 overs. The Suvarna News 24/7 team lost just five wickets.

Subhashith, Abhishek and Dilip from the winning team were adjudged the Man of the Match, Man of the Series and Best Bowler respectively.

Lokesh from Samaya TV was adjudged the Best Batsman and Vasanth from Janasri News the Best Fielder.

Ace commentator and cricket analyst Charu Sharma, chief guest at the presentation ceremony, said: "It is great to see media professionals handling bat and bowl instead of camera, mike and pen."

Charu Sharma congratulated the Acharya Institute for conducting such a big event and making it a great success. He also thanked the coordinators of Acharya Media Cup 2013.

The winners received prize money of Rs 30,000 and the runners up got Rs 20,000.

Earlier in the day, Suvarna News 24/7 got the better of OneIndia in the first semi-final. The latter's total of 66 runs in 12 overs was overhauled by the former in 10.1 overs. Suvarna News 24/7 won the match by 6 wickets. The Man of the Match was Abhishek from Suvarna News 24/7.

Janasri News batted first in the other semi-final and made 58 for the loss of eight wickets in 12 overs. Samaya TV won the match by scoring 59 with 2 wickets and 5 balls remaining. The Man of the Match was Praveen from Samaya TV.

The 5th edition of Acharya Media Cup featured 18 media houses. All the matches were played at the Smt Nagarathnamma stadium, Acharya Institutes, Soldevanahalli, Bangalore.

OneIndia was the online partner for this year's tournament that was organised by Acharya Habba, an initiative by Acharya Institutes, Bangalore. The New Indian Express and Kannada Prabha were the print partners, while Janashri News Kannada and 104 FM Fever were the TV and radio partners.
