Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 is set to start from 16th October and will continue till November 6, 2023.
38 domestic teams will fight it out in the domestic tournament. This is the 16th edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), the T20 domestic tournament which generally kickstarts the new domestic season in India.

38 teams are divided in Five groups. Each team will play one match against the remaining teams of the group.
Group A: Haryana, Baroda, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Hyderabad, Mizoram, Mumbai, Jammu and Kashmir.
Group B: Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, Chandigarh, Odisha, Sikkim, Services.
Group C: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Manipur, Punjab, Railways, Saurashtra.
Group D: Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha.
Group E: Delhi, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh.
There will be group-stage matches. There will be 2 pre-quarter finals, followed by the final knockout stages in the competition - quarter final, semifinal and the Final. All the knockout stage matches will be played across the two stadiums in Chandigarh.

10 teams have qualified for the knockout stages of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 season.
Mumbai, Punjab, Vidarbha, Kerala and Delhi have gone straight to the quarterfinals. Along with them, Baroda has also joined as a direct quarter-final entrant after finishing best among the 2nd placed teams.
Four other second-placed teams, viz. Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Bengal have qualified for the pre-quarter finals. The remaining 28 teams have crashed out of the tournament.
