Symonds follows Dhoni; breaks one million barrier

Mumbai, Feb 20 (UNI) Australian all rounder Andrew Symonds, who has been in the thick of the racial controversy with Harbhajan Singh during the recent Test series Down Under struck it rich with Team Hyderabad making a winning bid for him for a staggering amount of 1.35 million dollars in the third round of the player's bid for the DLF Indian Premier League in progress here this afternoon.

However, Dhoni with 1.5 million dollar remains the costliest player so far in the tournament.

Brett Lee has been booked by Team Mohali for 9,00,000 dollars, while New Zealander wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum went to Team Kolkata for 700,000 dollars and all rounder Jacob Oram also of New Zealand going for 675,000 dollars to Team Chennai from his base prize of 200,000 dollars. New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori whose base price was 2,50,000 dollars went to Team Delhi, thus becoming their first successful bid for 625,000 dollars.

Australian captain Ricky Ponting, whose base price was 3,25,000 dollars was picked up by Team Kolkata for 400,000 dollars, while their opening batsman Matthew Hayden with a base price of 2,25,000 dollars was picked up by Team Chennai for 375,000 dollars.

There was no bid for Aussie Michael Hussey and his name was put in the reserve list and will be taken up for auctioning at the last.

The players who have been brought by the so far: Team Mumbai: Sanath Jayasuriya, Harbhajan Singh, Icon player: Sachin Tendulkar Team Chennai: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Matthew Hayden, Jacob Oram, Muttiah Muralitharan.

Team Hyderabad: Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds.

Team Bangalore: Anil Kumble, Icon Player: Rahul Dravid Team Delhi: Daniel Vettori, Icon Player: Virender Sehwag Team Kolkata: Shoaib Akhtar,Ricky Ponting, Brendom McCullum, Icon Player: Sourav Ganguly Team Mohali:Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Brett Lee, Icon Player: Yuvraj Singh Team Jaipur: Shane Warne.

Players unsold: Glenn McGrath, Mohd Yousuf, Michael Hussey.

The IPL designated five 'Icon Players' in Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag, who are not up for bidding and will play for their respective cities Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mohali and Delhi, will get 15 per cent more than the costliest player of their team.
