T20 Blast: 2 cricketers hospitalised after 'horrible collision' on the field, match abandoned

London, June 14: Two cricketers were hospitalised today when they collided during a NatWest T20 Blast match at Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground.

Surrey's Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques and Rory Burns of England were involved in a "horrible collision" while trying to take a high catch on Sunday, against Sussex.

Both the players were treated on the outfield and later taken to hospital, Surrey county side announced.

"Rory Burns and Moises Henriques have been taken to hospital after their on-pitch collision during today's game at Arundel but were sitting up and conscious when they left the ground," a statement from Surrey said.

Sussex batsman Steffan Piolet had hit the ball high off Tom Curran and both 28-year-old Henriques and Burns, 24, went to catch the high ball and ended up colliding.

"Three ambulances arrived on the outfield shortly after the collision and both players were taken away in the emergency vehicles about 45 minutes later," "BBC" reported.

Later, Surrey tweeted that Henriques has had an X-ray on his jaw while Burns was waiting to see a specialist. "Latest: Moises has had X Ray on jaw and awaiting results. Rory waiting to see specialist and is chatting to staff," Surrey tweeted.

"Moises has broken his jaw in three places and is waiting to have an surgery will follow...," they added in another tweet.

Sussex were 141/7 in 18.4 overs when the incident happened. There was no further play as it was decided to abandon the game.

"The game was abandoned with the full consent of both sides," Surrey added.

Sri Lanka's former captain Mahela Jayawardene 43 for Sussex. Kevin Pietersen was playing for Surrey. Henriques had taken 3/23 in his 4-over spell before the injury.

During this year's Indian Premier League (IPL 8), Henriques impressed with his all-round show for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He has played 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 4 T20Is for Australia.
