Namibia batter Nikolaas Davin has created history in the T20 World Cup 2024 match against England on Saturday (June 15).
Namibia ended their T20 World Cup campaign with a defeat against England, but Davin's name will be etched in the history books.

Namibia opener Nikolaas Davin became the first batter in the history of the T20 World Cup to 'retire out'. The 26-year-old, playing his fourth match this World Cup made a slow start chasing 126 in 10 overs.
Davin scored just 18 off his first 16 balls, hitting two boundaries. Namibia, already out of the competition, had no incentive to chase the target but made a proactive move, creating history by retiring out the struggling Davin. He went out at the end of the sixth over and was replaced by David Wiese.
Namibia did not win the clash, but the tactic to retire Davin still paid off. His replacement David Wiese ended up scoring 27 runs off the 12 balls. The 26-year-old had a tough outing with the bat but now has his name marked in the cricket folklore.
This decision marked Davin as only the fourth batter in T20I history to retire out. The others are Hevit Alodin Jackson from France (twice), Sonam Tobgay from Bhutan, and Mustapha Suwareh from Gambia. In all T20s, there have only been 22 instances of batters retiring out.
